TOG by room temperature
| Room temperature | Common sleeping-bag guide | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Over 27°C | Check hot-weather / manufacturer guidance | Very light sleepwear or no sleeping bag may be more appropriate depending on the product guidance |
| 24–27°C* | Common guide: 0.5 TOG | Compare very light sleepwear with the sleeping-bag guide |
| 20–24°C* | Common guide: 1.0 TOG | Compare light sleepwear with the sleeping-bag guide |
| 16–20°C* | Common guide: 2.5 TOG | Compare fitted sleepwear with the sleeping-bag guide |
| Below 16°C | Check manufacturer guidance | Use the specific bag’s temperature guide; do not guess by adding loose bedding |
* 20°C and 24°C are shared boundary temperatures in common charts. Use the temperature guide for your specific sleeping bag to decide which side of the boundary applies.
Important: Treat the sleeping bag and the clothing underneath as one insulation system. Common commercial TOG ranges are only a starting point; there is no single universal outfit chart for every sleeping bag. Boundary temperatures such as 20°C or 24°C can fall into different manufacturer charts, so the product’s own temperature and fit guidance takes priority.
